Music connects people and their bodies in a way that becomes an experience for both the mover and the audience. There is no wrong way of articulating what your body feels when it naturally responds to music. It’s more or so discipline, intension, and control. The B’Simone Theory is the concept that we give ourselves permission to individually be and create who we envision ourselves to be, fearlessly, and unapologetically. I want to accentuate the necessity to accept that our individuality is intentionally our own, taking that responsibility, and seeking our artistic visions. I believe that focusing on skill, confidence, and mental posture through body movement influences personal growth. Power is created when you take this experience and combine the culture of building one another.
I attended graduate school for a degree which had a high focus on mental health and behavior. A key concept, that behavior is influenced by experiences, led me to understand those around me differently. A favorite dance professor of mine always said, “You can always tell what someone is going through by their movement.” Who are you? What are you going through? What is currently happening and how can you physically translate that to an audience? The intension should be to describe yourself silently but with conviction. The goal is to learn to trust yourself to deliver that message exactly how you feel it. I want to create an environment that helps rebuild one’s self-perception through dance. A place where one can experiment, gain knowledge, and grow without the pressure of comparison or judgement. I found my confidence on the dance floor, in heels, learning to love what I saw in the mirror. This is MY theory on how class should build confidence, culture, and experience.
